Film title: Where the Crawdads Sing (based on the coming-of-age murder mystery novel by Delia Owens)

Genre: murder mystery

Location: The film is set in the coastal marshes of North Carolina. (Though the film was filmed in Louisinana)

Main characters:  Kya (Cathrine Danielle Clark), the Marsh Girl

                             Tate Walker

                             Chase Andrews

Plot: Kya lives in a small hut in the marshes of North-Carolina with her mum, dad and four siblings. They have some happy moments but her father is an alcoholic and he becomes more and more agressive. After a violent fight her mother leaves the family. Later all her brothers and sisters escape because they don't want to live with the violent father. Kya tries to get on with her dad, but one day he disappears, too. So the little girl stays alone. She doesn't go to school, but learns to read and write with the help of Tate, a local boy. They fall in love, but the boy decides to go to university so Kya is alone again. She becomes the secret girlfriend of another boy, Chase, who is already engaged. When Kya finds out, she wants to break up with him, but the boy becomes angry and violent.  Some time later he dies unexpectedly. His body was found in the marshes but the police do not know if he died in an accident or was murdered. Although Kya has an alibi the police think she is responsible for the murder. Is she guilty? Did she murder Chase in self-defense? Or was it an accident?

Memorable moments: the movie is a beautiful depiction of North Carolina.

Name of actress: Daisy Edgar-Jones leads the cast, she is a British actress, born in 1998. She is n her early twenties so she hasn't won any major awards and has not starred in many movies yet. I think this film is her major breakthrough.

Love Actually - Official Trailer

I would like to talk about my favourite film.

GENRE:

To tell you the truth, I'm fond of comedies and Christmas so I chose Love Actually

which is a cute Christmas-themed romantic comedy with a charming cast.

DIRECTOR, RELEASE

It was written and directed by Richard Curtis and released in 2003. As far as I know it became a box office hit.

LOCATION

It was filmed on location in London, which is another thing that I adore about this movie.

WHEN AND WHERE DID YOU SEE IT?

As I have already mentioned, it was released 18 years ago and I have probably seen it a hundred times on DVD and Netflix. I reckon that watching films at home has a lot of advantages so I am not a regular cinema-goer.

SET IN ...

The film is set in present day London (or rather 2013 London) before Christmas. We follow the lives of different characters ranging from the new British Prime Minister to a Portuguese housekeeper.

CHARACTERS

If you ask me, everybody can find a character they can relate to or sympathise with.

My favourite character is Jamie, the writer - played by one of my favourite actors, Colin Firth - who has just broken up with his cheating girlfriend. (To make matters worse, he finds out that she is having an affair with his brother.)

PLOT

Crushed, Jamie withdraws to his French cottage, where he unexpectedly falls in love with his Portuguese housekeeper. Although he cannot speak Portuguese and she cannot speak English, they have great chemistry between them therefore this storyline ends well: Jamie proposes to Aurelia in broken Portuguese and she she accepts the proposal in broken English. You see, learning languages is not a waste of time!

WHO DO YOU RECOMMEND IT TO?

I recommend this movie to everybody who is fond of this genre, Christmas and London. On the other hand, I do not think people who like action or horror films will like it very much. They might find it sickeningly sweet.

EUROEXAM / PICTURE STORY

The story starts like this: Margo didn't like her office job ..."

She had been working as an accountant for 15 years and she was fed up with everything: her barren office, the computer, her low salary and the greedy boss. 'If I had a million dollars, I would be the happiest person in the world. I would invest the money wisely and would not have to work another day in my life' - she thought.

That's why she decided to play the lottery on her way home. She thought she could win the jackpot and change her life for the better.

Luckily, the following day she did win the jackpot. She could not believe her own eyes when she saw the check for 1 million dollars. But instead of investing the money - as she had planned - she went on a shopping spree.

First, she bought an expensive sportscar even though she did not have a driver's licence.

Then, she contacted a real estate agent and purchased the most expensive mansion in the neighbourhood.

Unfortunately, she became addicted to gambling and drinking and had to sell her everything to pay her debts.

One day, she woke up in a hospital bed all alone. Her friends had disappeared and let her down. She was left to her own devices and had to figure out what to do next.

In spite of not having any money, she did not feel depressed. She decided to turn over a new leaf.

Then, she had a brainwave. She dialled the number of her former boss and asked him to hire her.

It turned out that the boss missed her a lot because she was the best bookkeper he had ever met. He did not only gave her her old job back but also gave her a bonus and a promotion.

All's well that ends well. Margo was fond of her job, saved a lot of money and was able to buy a simple car and a small house with a beautiful garden.
